What's the job?

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Feel empowered and autonomous to provide technical thought leadership
  • Drive and coordinate team’s engagements o technical level
  • Drive team’s roadmap in cooperation with Principal Engineers and Squad Lead
  • Can own your work end-to-end from inception, to writing acceptance criteria, to production ready Taking an MVP first approach whilst adhering to best practice where possible and ensuring all aspects of quality are taken into consideration
  • Improving the observability of Kingfisher’s products with a customer focused lens to increase the confidence in the ability to pinpoint and resolve issues
  • Work with Product squads as an embedded SRE to drive automation and reduce toil  
  • Work closely with Incident Management and Product squads to ensure appropriate root cause analysis is performed with actionable outcomes
  • Provide SRE representation in blameless post-mortems following P1/P2 incidents and ensure outcomes are followed through to resolution
  • Write clear and descriptive technical documentation with the end-user in mind 
  • Willing to participate in an on-call rota providing SRE support during Major Incidents 
  • Work with Product squads to establish SLI’s / SLO’s and participate in monthly reviews 
  • Collaborate with the wider technology teams in a DevOps fashion to help to bridge the gap with product squads (Security, APM, Networks, etc.) 
  • Creation and ownership of common standards and practices

What you'll bring

Required Skills & Experience: 

 

  • Effective communication skills to be able to productively participate in discussion, understand customer’s requirements and clearly articulate yourself when presenting solutions. 
  • Experience in big scale
  • Understanding of SRE principles 
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • A willingness to learn and continuously improve by working with new tools and technologies. 
  • CI/CD Platforms – GitLab (preferred), GitHub Actions, Jenkins etc.  
  • Any one major cloud - AWS, GCP, Azure  
  • DevOps mindset 
  • Familiarity with modern tooling – e.g. Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm Chart, Service Mesh, etc.  
  • Scripting Languages – e.g. Javascript, Typescript, Bash, Python, Groovy, etc.  
  • Programming Languages – e.g. Java, NodeJSGo, etc. 
  • Enterprise Observability Tool– e.g. Datadog or Dynatrace (preferred), Grafana, etc.  
  • Take a test-driven development approach when building capabilities. 
  • Understanding of Agile development methodologies and events
