Network Design Engineer

We are looking for a Network Design Engineer to join us, to take responsibility for providing the network solutions that underpin all the applications and services across Kingfisher and our banners, ensuring service excellence in our stores and online. This role would suit an experienced individual that has a background in network design within a retail (or highly transferable) environment, with practical experience designing large scale and complex networks. 

This role is based at our B&Q head office just outside Southampton, with the expectation of 12 days a month in the office and travel to other sites across the UK/Europe as required. 

• Delivering network stability and availability and participating in the design, support and delivery of projects. 

• Designing, testing and implementing SD-WAN/WAN/LAN/WiFi/Security solutions within head offices, stores, distribution centres, datacentres and network connectivity into the cloud. 

• Contributing to the development of the network roadmap, strategy and standards, which includes the assessment of vendor solutions and new innovations. 

• Keeping abreast of third-party services, telecoms industry benchmarks and trends, in order to identify opportunities for development of our platforms, focusing on simplification and cost reduction. 

• Proven experience in the design and delivery of network infrastructure solutions within a retail environment. 

• Experience of WAN technologies, specifically MPLS, VPNs and SD-WAN: VeloCloud and Cisco Viptela. 

• Experience of LAN network systems and protocols (Juniper MiST and Cisco Catalyst). 

• Experience of Wi-Fi technologies, specifically Juniper MiST. 

• Expertise in Palo Alto firewall and security design. 

• Knowledge of F5 load balancer and Zscaler internet proxy.
